Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a group of boarding schools providing top quality education at low fees. They are run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. JNVs are fully residential and co-educational schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII standard. JNVs are specifically tasked with finding talented children in rural areas of India and providing them with an education equivalent to the best residential school system, without regard to their family’s socio-economic condition.

History of Navodaya Vidyalaya

The Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme was started during the year 1985-86 and is managed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous organization under the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development.

As part of the programme of action of the new education policy, 1986, Govt. of India launched the scheme under the pioneer of Shri. Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India to set up Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in all the districts of the country in order to provide opportunities to the children with special talents to proceed at a faster pace by making quality education available to them irrespective of their capacity to pay for it.

As per policy of the Government of India, one JNV was to be established in each district of the country. To start with, two Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas were established during 1985–86, at Jhajjar (Haryana) and Amravati (Maharashtra). As of 2015-16 academic session, JNVs have been sanctioned for 576 districts. In addition, 10 JNVs have been sanctioned in districts having a large population of ST population and 10 JNVs in districts having large a concentration of SC population and 2 special JNVs in Manipur bringing a total number of sanctioned JNVs to 598.

Admission

Admission to Class VI of the JNVs requires qualification in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test(JNVST), an entrance exam designed, developed and conducted by the CBSE. JNVST for Class VI has conducted annually throughout the country to select 80 most meritorious students for each JNV.It is conducted in three phases in a year depending upon session structure in specific State or Union Territory.Candidates can apply for the test only once during their Class V.The test encompasses Mental ability skills, Mathematics, and Regional language.The schools provide reservation as per NVS Policy which encompasses reservation for ST and SC (but not OBC), at least 75% selection of students from rural areas, maximum 25% from urban areas, fixed 33% to girl students and 3% for disabled candidates.To compensate attrition and optimally utilize seats, JNVST, developed by CBSE, is also conducted for admission to Class IX and lateral admissions, based on merit in Class X, are made for Class XI.

Steps to apply for the online application form for Navodaya admission

Firstly, visit the main web Portal of Navodaya Vidyalaya http://www.navodaya.nic.in/Click on the Application form Link.Fill the suitable Application form for Class 6, Class 7, Class 8 and Class 9.Ensure all the entered details are correct.Pay the application form fee.

Admit Card

NVS Exam will be held on 1st June
Initially, it was scheduled to take place on 7th June, but due to some delays, it will be organized in the 1st week of June
The JNVST Hall Ticket would be made available at official website in the month of May

Online Admit Cards Downloading Procedure:

Visit the official website of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Navodaya.nic.in.Look for the online Admit Card link from the website.Click on the Latest Circulars /JNVST Admissions section so that you can find their online links for the concerned entrance exams.Open the Admit Card Window and enter your roll number as per the exam form submitted.Click on the ‘Submit’ button to produce your online Admit Card for the JNVST Exam.Take a printout and download the Admit Cards for future reference.Candidates need to check all the details of exam mentioned on the admit card like the date, time and venue of exam.

Eligibility Criteria

It is meant for children studying in class V.The students should have passed class III, IV and V in preceding years without a gap/break.The age criterion is between 9 and 13 years.Students are not allowed to appear for the selection test for the second time irrespective of the circumstances.The rural quota is only considered when the candidates have studied class III, IV and V in a rural area school.

Area wise: Rural: Urban –75%: 25%Gender wise: Boys: Girls –67%: 33%Category wise: SC and ST –Minimum 15% and & 7%; Maximum 50% for both the categories taken together.Physically Handicapped: 3%

Method of Recording Answers

A separate answer sheet is always provided. Students need to mention their answers in the given space on the test booklet itself. The Answer sheet has the intelligence Character Recognition (ICR)/Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Sheet. While you write, a copy of the specimen Answer Sheet gets enclosed automatically.You can use only blue/black Ballpoint Pen on this answer sheet. It is important to bring your own ballpoint pens and pencils are strictly forbidden.For every question, there are four possible answers, and only one is correct out of them. The students need to select the correct answer and encircle the Corresponding number (1, 2, 3, 4) mentioned against the probable answers on the test booklet. If any kind of annual mode is included such as marking (), it will not be accepted as an answer.No form of changes is accepted once an answer is written. Overwriting, erasing, cutting on the Answer Sheet is also not allowed.One mark is given for every correct answer.There is no negative marking.If a candidate has encircled two or more answers, it will be considered as incorrect. Even if the circle encloses more than one serial number, it will be treated as incorrect.

Candidates need to carefully go through all the instructions given on the main page of the test booklet as well as each test/sections before getting started with the exam. Students also need to check if the received test booklet is as per their selected language preference.
